Edinburgh Hotel - A Case Study

This large and prestigious hotel like all hotels tended to suffer from fire alarm activations caused by steam from the bathrooms.

We installed a multi-loop addressable control panel, which could be interrogated off site via the internet (security assured).

Repeater control panels throughout the building allowed staff to be fully aware of any 'fire' situation.

The system was installed in mid 2008, since that time there have been no false alarms.

The absence of false alarms can be attributed directly to the very latest in smoke detectors, which can differentiate between smoke and other airborne contaminants (e.g. steam, dust, aerosols etc).

This is a major step forward for hotels.

False alarms can be disturbing, distressing, inconvenient and to the hotelier, costly. False alarms also are a major concern for Fire Authorities.

Repeated false alarms destroy the users confidence and can result in slow and inappropriate action by the users of the building.

Hotels, hospitals, nursing homes etc in particular need to be assured of the integrity of their safety systems, the comfort, convenience and safety of potentially vulnerable people is at stake.

The use of these new 'dual optical' smoke detectors is a major step forward in fire safety.
